2 New KOTG Contests

EDIT: T-Shirt Contest is OVER.. but the Poster contest is still going.. see below....

We have two new contests happening.

First one, Knights of the Guild is part of the Geekerdome Network. They have been kind enough to give KOTG a section of their forums for our fans to discuss episodes, talking about the cast, crew or anything else you guys would want to talk about. You do need to sign up to participate in this forum, but that takes a few minutes and is very easy.

So those who sign up in the next week will be entered into a KOTG T-shirt Contest and we will randomly draw one, maybe two names on Sunday Nov. 22nd.

Go to http://geekerdome.com/phpbb3/viewforum.php?f=27

Once you sign up go to the thread "I want a free t-shirt" and post that you want a free t-shirt... it's that easy.

Our second contest is a bit more difficult but the prize is well worth it. We are asking you guys to pick one of your favorite quotes from The Guild (any season) and record yourself impersonating that character saying it. Send your audio file to knightsoftheguild@gmail.com

All entries received by Dec. 1st will go into a drawing and we will pick one person at random and they will win an 11x17 poster of the Guild cast in their Avatar outfits and it's signed by all six of the main Guild cast and also Michele Boyd (Riley), Tara Caso (Dena), and Director Sean Becker.

Live Stream Video

We did record our Livestream video of us recording Episode 10 of Knights of the Guild. It hasn't been posted yet because for the first 10 or so minutes there is no audio as this was our test run and we have a few techie issues. I was hoping to edit the first ten minutes out but so far I haven't been able to do that. My attempts have caused the audio to slow down and it sounds horrible. I may just post it the way it is and just explain that the first 10 minutes are miss the audio.. what do you think?

Making Changes

I love when you are finally done and very happy with the final results, but realize that you left something out and have to go back and re-edit.

Might sounds simple but when I'm down with editing the podcast I output (which takes about 30 minutes), then I run it through levelator (which levels out all the audio, which takes another 30 minutes) but that leaves it in a .aiff format which doesn't work for podbean so I then have to bring it into Audacity and output it as an .mp3 and that take about 15 minutes. And finally if I remember I bring it into itunes to add the photo. So once I'm done editing the piece there is still another hour and 15 minutes of outputting before it is ready.

I had to go back and cut in the piece that I forget and then start this process over once again. Oh well the piece had to be in there and It think this pt 1 or Ep 10 turned out pretty good. Can't wait to post it.

Editing Ep 10

After a long day of work I came home and started working on editing KOTG ep 10 pt 1. I had already went through the hours of audio and cut it down to what was needed. I am not cutting it all together with the bumpers and dissolves and making it all pretty. Should be done tonight but won't post it until Nov. 15th. Ep 10 pt 2 is still waiting to be cut down before being assembled.

Live Podcasting

Today we recorded our 10th episode of Knights of the Guild podcast but this time we were broadcasting via webcam on livestream. This was our first time so things didn't quite go as planned. It started off fine.. we did our interview with Sean (audio guy) and it went great. We then started our podcast and turned on the livestream feed. We started the podcast and got about ten minutes in and realized that the audio was one correctly configured so folks watching couldn't hear anything. I just happen to look over at the chat window and people were frantically typing "WE CAN'T HEAR YOU". We quickly fixed the problem and continued with the podcast. For about and hour things were moving along nicely. The webcam would move and I'd be cut out of frame but again we would look at the chat room and they would let us know. We then started getting "trolls" in our chat. If you don't know what a troll is, it's a person (if you can all them that) that join the chat and will swear, attack and otherwise disrupt the chat room. We had several of them and I keep trying to ban them but with livestream you can only ban the name and not the IP address.. so I would ban them and they would sign back on with another name and so on and so on. After a while I gave up and we continued to do the podcast.

When we were done it seemed that those who joined us enjoyed it. We had alot of fun doing it but because of the trolls it kind of ended the night on a down. But I'll be looking into either another live web cam service, one that I can ban IP address or looking into livestream closer to see if there is something I can do.

I'm working on removing the first 10 minutes with no audio before posting it. I hope to have it up soon.

Jenni Teachin' a Class on Web Series Production!

Hi Everyone!

Jenni here! I'm sure many of you are aware that I have spent the last several years working exclusively in web entertainment (or "New Media" as the bigwigs like to call it). I'm excited to let everyone on the podcast know I will helping teach a prep course on developing, creating, and distributing web content and so I thought I'd post the info in case any of you might know of anyone that might be interested in taking courses. Currently the pricing is $150 for 4 weeks of classes, classes being every Monday starting this Monday the 9th from 7 PM - 10 PM. I can probably work out a discount rate if that would be helpful
to anyone interested. Please feel free to pass this info on to whoever you think might be interested. You can also get more info at our site www.webtvprep.com.

Below is a week by week course description.

WEEK 1 COURSE DESCRIPTION

Creative/Developement

In week one students will be challenged to overcome resistance and
thoroughly flesh out their own idea for an original webisode.
Students will hit the ground running and should be prepared with three
concepts for a web series before coming to class. Questions to be
explored include: What works in the web space and what doesn’t? Are
there any pitfalls and/or clichés that one should avoid? Are certain
genres more successful than others in the web space? Specific topics
to be covered include: Form, Genre, Resources and Locations, Performer
Union Contracts, Casting, and LLC formation.

WEEK 2 COURSE DESCRIPTION

Production

Students will learn a basic overview of pre-production (budgeting,
location scouting, scheduling, crewing up, equipment and rentals,
etc…) to set their series up in a successful way. Heading into
production, key guidelines will be discussed in detail to ensure a
happy and smooth running set. How important is a good 1st AD?? What
does a line-producer do? When are the best times to shoot? What type
of camera should I use- HD vs. DV? Minute details, such as payroll,
on set performer releases, and time sheets, will be discussed.

WEEK 3 COURSE DESCRIPTION

Post Pro/Web Design and Technology

All aspects of post production will be discussed in detail, including:
editing, sound design, composition, vfx, credits and graphics. In
addition, output (transcoding/encoding) for final delivery will be
covered. Furthermore, we’ll discuss which format works best for
creating your parent site: html vs. flash, Wordpress vs. Joomla vs.
Dropla,? Major digital studios (Hulu, Crackle, Break, Strike.tv,
Blip.tv, Koldcast, myspace.tv, youtube.com) will be debated. Which is
the best platform for your show to live online? The business models
for each major digital studio will be explored in detail.

WEEK 4 COURSE DESCRIPTION

Social Networking/Viral Marketing/Sales

In our final week, students will learn social networking strategies to
optimize the promotions of their content, using such platforms as:
Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, and Bebo, and LinkedIn. Students will
also learn the importance of bookmarking (digg, reddit, and tumbler)
as well as the importance of reaching out to new media outlets such as
Tubefilter, NewTeeVee, Mashable, and Techzulu. SEO (Search Engine
Optimization) and SEM (Search Engine Monetization) will be explored in
